A boy with Bicycle!
It was a 7am in the morning, when Sagar woke up and get ready for his daily routine.
He took his bicycle, put the gloves on, took out elbow pad and wore the helmet on the head.
Before he could leave for a ride her mother came-up with a plate in her hand to give his son a couple of breads with a butter on it and a cup of tea along with that.
He left his home around 7.30am with Kapil one of the closest and childhood friend of him.
Wait a minute..!! Let’s just go few years back to know the beginning of this fairy tale ending.
It was Tuesday on Feb 7th, 2006 he was heading towards home after getting the result of 8th Standard. (IInd Unit test)
Did I mention you that he was average student..??
No..!! Well, yes he was below par on expectations.
He was a bit tensed, not because of securing 56%, but one of his school friends (Lakhan) who used to study with him all the time (be it a school or a tuition) got 62% in the same test.
In evening as he reached home, freshen-up and was having a cup of tea with his mom, keeping in mind that he needs to share the outcome (result) of his mom’s effort of praying to GOD all the time for getting a better % like any other scholar boy.
Later in the night, when he revealed his achievement of that Unit Test (after mumbling around quite a few times in front of mirror) as expected his Mom gave him an angry look and his dad who was watching an exciting Interview of Amresh Puri taken by Anil Kapoor with the camera man Johny Lever in the movie named “Nayak”, told him to turn off the television with a remote besides him.
Before his father gets into the details of marks in several subjects, his mother with a bit louder in her voice asked him, “USKE TOH 62% AAYE HAI..!! TERE ITNE KAM % KYUN AAYE”(He got 62%...then how cum you got very less)
He was shocked, confused and was in Chaos. Instantly went in the flashback of the whole day trying to find out how his mother came to know about this..??
Well, there was no such answer in his mind, but later his mom after a pause for a few seconds was saying to his father that, “Lakhan ki mummy ka call aaya tha, Bade garv ke sath bata rahi thi ki uski 62% aayi hai (sixty-two).”(I got a call from Lakhan’s mother, she was feeling proud to say that his son got 62%)
KUCH SEEKH TU..!!(You should Learn from him )
THESE 3 words were enough for him to express his feeling full of emotions with a rolling tear in his eyes.
This was the day when this Journey started. There is an old saying that
“Bachoon ko khilone ki laalach do, Toh wo use hasil karne ke liye bahut kuch kar sakta hai” (If you create greed in child mind for gifting them something in return they will definitely come out with best results)
Before going to sleep, he promised his parents to achieve quite good % in Board Exams which was going to hit two years from now ( i.e in Xth standard) and in return he will be awarded with a bicycle of his choice.
Trust me getting a bicycle on your own in the year 2008 is like one of the dream come true for many.
Growing of Plant requires a thickness of Roots.
Likewise, he promised, the execution was on its way.
Meanwhile, while appearing/preparing for board exams, he took a private tuition where he met a few people of the same standard and two of them found a bond with him.
One of Shilpa and Another one was Rohini, while the former one become a close friend of him with time and later one was a 1st Crush of his life..!!!!! (Blushing…..……)
As his goals were clear, he let go of thoughts coming/hunting in his head for that girl every now and then, which was much needed as he was on the verge of achieving/tasting success for the 1St time in his life for his dream of getting a bicycle.
May 20, 2008 The Judgement Day when the results of the Boards are out/declared. He went with his friend (Lakhan) around 5.00pm in the evening at cyber cafe to check out the results with a hall ticket in his pocket and lights of hopes in his heart.
Sooner they reach at cyber cafĂ© for checking the results, well before the screen display positive(+ve) results there was a time of testing the patience as windows was buffering because we don’t have Jio4G LTE in the year of 2008.
Sagar got 61% and his friend (Lakhan) scored a magnificent 69%. Once again history repeats itself and results were similar to 8th Standard (IInd Unit test).
Yes! Yes! Yes…The Foremost reaction comes after checking the results.
That moment of Eureka has finally come:-
“Aankhon me khushi k aansu the,
Dil me ladoo phutt rahe the,
Kiya hua wada pura hua,
Bus ab Intezar tha toh Inaam(Reward-Bicycle)ka”
Finally he arrived at home with a broad smile on his face, hugged his mother and revealed the achievement of his Board Results.
The only person who was most happy at that time was his MOTHER, but happiness doesn’t last long as she heard the percentage of his well-known friend (Lakhan).
Promises are made to be Broken..
Rightly Said ..Isn’t it………….??
And again the results were compared and the story took a long U-turn…
Wondering, that did he get the bicycle??
If yes,how?
Though Dream of getting a good percentage in Xth came true, but getting a bicycle was not fulfilled and remained as memory for him.
In Movies as we see Hero Imagine romantic song with his heroine…Likewise, every morning he wakes up with Imagining routine which is mentioned in the beginning of the story..
It was his First Dream to get the Bicycle!
Which remains a dream due to the so called concept of “Comparison” which today also prevails over “Happiness”.
Though our parents resort to give example of other children accomplishment as a way to motivate their child.
Though no parent want to hurt their child by saying those statements(Lakhan got more than you..how?)but unknowingly these do more harm than good.
Sometimes the sole motivation of comparing child is to push them to work hard and come out with better results but does this work?
No.
You are making them more stressed.
No two children are same they have different talents, interests, strengths and weaknesses.
You might be wondering then how we can instigate competition in the child.
Well...start making them Identify their hidden talents and Improvise ownself by comparing with ourselves.
Just be proud of your children for what they are.Give them your love and strive to build a confident person out of your own child.
Remember....Do not rob your little one from the Joy of childhood:(
You are unknowingly killing their Dreams which are going to remain forever as a memory to them!
